Where style meets story

A simple, timeless version of your favourite Christmas ornament

Nativity sets have been bringing the story of Jesus’ birth to life since 1223 AD, when St Francis of Assisi set up a live enactment of the event in a cave in Italy.

By the mid-1500’s, simple nativity sets began to appear in wealthy homes and, within 200 years, they had become a Christmas feature in ordinary homes too.

Techniques, materials and styles have evolved over time but, behind them all, the story of the the miraculous birth of the Saviour of the world is as simple as it ever was:

The King of the universe loved us so much that he laid aside his glory and status, coming to us as a helpless baby, with a mission to save us all.

Our set mirrors that same humility and simplicity with its simple shapes, rounded edges and minimal detail. The natural beauty of the wood does not need help from brightly coloured paints, gold leaf or lacquer.

It’s the story it represents that makes this nativity set so beautiful.

Reading Together

Turning Reading Into Story Building

Screen time can never replicate the closeness a child feels, curled up against you, looking at the same page, waiting to see what happens next. Reading together, even for ten minutes a day, gives children something electronic devices are designed specifically not to give them - a slower pace, a real voice and a reason to give their full attention.

It's also great for their development, building vocabulary and concentration in ways that passive screen time can’t. Even more importantly, it tells the children in your life that this time is theirs.

That closeness deepens even further when you build the story together rather than just read reading it aloud. A tale where your child gets to choose the shepherd's name or invent the joke the innkeeper tells, stops being a story and becomes a family tradition with their fingerprints all over it. No two families will ever tell quite the same version, and that's what makes it so special.

You can base your story building on the advent passages from the Bible, an advent book or our own “Letters From Gaius” (See below)

Acting out the story, with the figures from our nativity sets, brings their imagination into the real world where they can touch and feel it.

Placing the Angel at Joseph's door or walking the wise men up to Herod's gate creates a rich and peaceful world in their imaginations where no one is trying to stress or control them. The stories will evolve and adapt each advent but the joy and connection will be the same every time.
