This classic English tea is balanced beautifully with the brisk notes of the Ceylon tea complimenting the perfumed and citrus nuances of the oils of Bergamot. It is best served black but will take a drop of milk or a slice of lemon for those who prefer it that way.
Our Earl Grey is comprised of natural oil of bergamot that has been gently infused into black organic orange pekoe tea leaves from the Harington Estate. The estate is located in the Dimbula region of the central mountain range of Sri Lanka. Harington has been producing organic teas since 2011. The owners wanted to protect the land and remove the need for artificial fertilisers and pesticides. This has allowed animals of many species to be seen around the estate including wild boar, wildcats, deer, squirrels, eagles and many other birds. There has also been a noticeable increase in the bee populations throughout the estate. The tea estate, which was established in the days of the British Empire, is spread over 40 hectares of land so is relatively small and stands at 1,200 metres above sea level. The owners have opted to produce only black tea which is in high demand due to its excellent flavour and organic status. There are 110 permanent workers on the farm who live there in houses provided by the estate. Each of these has a good sized garden so that families can keep chickens and grow vegetables for their own consumption. There is a school on the farm. The tea is delivered to Colombo where natural oil of bergamot is infused into the large orange pekoe leaf to impart its particular distinctive flavour.
