Nuts are nutritional powerhouses, contributing to our general health and well-being and, for anyone following a vegan diet, they are an amazing alternative protein source.

But how well do your know your nuts?  Allow us to fill you in...

  • Native to the Middle East, almonds are the edible seeds of prunus dulcis, a.k.a. the almond tree.
  • Highly nutritious and rich in healthy fats, antioxidants, vitamin E, potassium and magnesium.
  • Great for a healthy heart, brain and strong bones.
  • Perfect in baked goods or toasted salads.

  • With origins in South America, the cashew nut comes from the tropical evergreen, anacardium occidentale.
  • Low in sugar and rich in fibre, packed with copper and magnesium.
  • Known for energy boosting, as well as brain and heart health.
  • Delicious in curries, salads or on their own as a snack.

  • Brazil nuts come from one of the largest and longest-lived trees in the Amazon rainforest, the bertholletia excelsa.
  • High in healthy fats, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals such as calcium and iron.
  • Promote brain health and may lower cholesterol.
  • Often used in baking, as an ingredient or to decorate fruit cakes.
